LOSS OF INNOCENCE
How we loved to love
to spend time
to talk
and drink
and talk
and eat
and talk and spend quiet times
how we loved to love
I’ve seen the purposeful effort
social scenes
climbing on shoulders
where love was a means to an end
to an end
where the heart cannot mend
when people love to talk
and drink
and talk
and eat
and talk
but the quiet times are spent
and bankrupt
and love is corrupt
and brought
to an end
How we loved to love
but the sea has eaten us
and the bare bones sink beneath
besotted stone
the wind has beaten us
just short of submission
but we live
and will love with purposeful effort
social scenes
climbing on shoulders
demanding more
driving tears
moving mountains
changing the course of whole rivers
But oh, how we loved to love.
