poem - A different Kind of Love - 13 Jun 05

A DIFFERENT KIND OF LOVE

To give yourself
you can never give yourself
to lose yourself to love
you never can.
For the world will eat you
and cash in on the extra ride,
the waves will wash you away
and forget your beautiful eyes
that smile in the rain.

Don’t give yourself
that love is blind
not love on a plate
but a different kind.
A saving love that remembers a face
an open door for a person misplaced
to give yourself
you never can again
but I’ll never forget,
the beautiful eyes that smiled in the rain
